Snaring Dungeness off a Puget Sound pier, a jetty on the Oregon Coast, or a rocky stretch of the California shoreline takes a rod built to punch heavy weight through current and hold up when a big one grabs on. The Okuma Crab Snare Special is purpose-built for exactly that, pairing a sensitive graphite composite blank with hardware tough enough for daily use in saltwater from Washington down to California.
The 11'0" H version handles 3-8 oz of weight on 20-40 lb line, while the 12'0" XH steps up to 12-16 oz on 20-50 lb line for longer casts and stronger current breaks. Aluminum oxide guide inserts and double-foot stainless steel frames stand up to sand, snare rope, and repeated abuse, while cork-wrapped nonslip grips and EVA cushions front and back of the reel seat keep hands comfortable through a long morning of casting and retrieving. Both models break down into two pieces for easy transport to and from the water.
